Creating Space in Student Accommodation
Your living space at university is precious, and you need to make sure that there is enough space for all of your academic work as well as making it a space to feel like a home from home environment. To do this, you need to ensure that you take advantage of every inch of it. to make sure the “shoe fits” here are some nifty tips and tricks which will enable you to divulge in the space that you do have to make cosy, homely and darn right inviting.
Drawer Dividers
Fantastic items for separating your socks from your dedicates, your gym gear from your everyday clothes. This little organisational piece if kit is what spacing saving dreams are made of. Houzz has found some nifty drawer dividers for the kitchen but we say they’re just as useful for the bedroom or desk storage.
Storage Boxes
Storage boxes really are the answer. Piling your stuff around the room, wherever you can find space, will just look messy and will slowly drag your mood down. Stacking the pile neatly into storage boxes will have sorted in no time. Don’t be tempted to skimp on storage boxes – choose your sizes wisely, and buy as many as your room will allow.
Using Your Wall Space
Use blu-tack or pins on the walls of student rooms and you will be sure to get a roasting in no time. Don’t worry, though, as there us an alternative. Buy some 3M Command before you set off for University, so that you can put pictures on the walls, without taking up space on the window will or you desk.
Removable Hooks
Removable hooks are clever gadgets that attach to a wall or door using special adhesive, to provide hanging space for coats, towels and dressing gowns. With some of these in play, you’ll free up valuable space in the wardrobe for other stuff.
Hanger Clips
Hanger connectors are a great way to make more space in your wardrobe whilst still keeping a uniform and tidy look. Only use them if your wardrobe is tall enough to avoid your clothes dragging on the bottom of the wardrobe floor. If you do have a short wardrobe, use hanger connectors with clips, to clip your longer items.
Pen and Stationary Holders
To optimise your space, a standard pencil case may not cut it, but a stationary holder will organize your academic belongings into one neat and tidy display. IKEA has some great options at student-friendly prices.
Bed organisers
Bed organisers are a brilliant alternative to bedside tables. They hold glasses, headphones and other items like books, iPods and toiletries, right by the bed so they’re easy to reach. John Lewis has clip-on options that will do the trick perfectly.
Use the Back of Your Door
Effective storage means making the most out of every inch of available space, even the back of your door. A door rack can help you find a home for shoes, books and hair appliances that you would otherwise stash in a drawer or on the floor of your wardrobe.
