Living in Leeds? Run out of money? Living off baked beans and pizza? Got nothing fun to do?
We’ve all been there at some point or another.
BUT…
Luckily you’re in the right place!
Leeds is one of the best cities for students. Whether you’re looking for a night out with all your new mates or a fun day trip with your family visiting for the weekend, you will never be short of options. Even with a limited budget there are still so many places to explore and hidden gems to be found.
Here is our list of some great places you need to see and some great upcoming events on a budget that we’re really excited about…
Temple Newsam in the Dark
Temple Newsam is located a short 15 minute bus ride from the city centre. Tucked away from the noise of the city, the estate holds events all year round in the grounds of the house. Temple Newsam is perfect for sunny days, whether you’re having a picnic or just chilling out in the sun. It also has a café, shop and a farm which you can look around for a small entry fee of £3.70!
Don’t fancy an expensive night out on Halloween? Temple Newsam are holding a ghost walk through the cellars for only £10. It is for adults only and “not for the faint hearted” so don’t take any of your mates who are easily frightened. Perfect alternative to hitting the clubs on Halloween!

Leeds Vintage Fair
Free entry to the UK’s biggest vintage fair right on your doorstep! What more could we ask for? Taking over the Corn Exchange on the 23rd October, this huge fair has tonnes of offers and sale rails to rummage through.
This is great for those wanting something a little more original than what the high street shops offer, all for reasonable prices. Not only offering clothes, the fair will have bits and bobs for your home and accessories so it’s bound to have some hidden treasures!

Roundhay Park and Tropical World
Roundhay park is located a 20 minute bus ride from the city centre. The park is open every day and holds events regularly such as farmers markets, concerts and canoeing. It’s great to visit when the sun is out (not often in Leeds!), but if you fancy a bit of tropical weather on a rainy day then where better to go than Tropical World!
Tropical World is located next to the park and is filled with exotic plants and animals – from snakes to meerkats. The entry fee is just £5.00 and there’s a café and pub opposite for when you’ve finished!
Brudenell Social Club
The Brudenell is a lively venue for all music lovers. The social club is located in Burley and hosts gigs most nights of the week for affordable prices (Around £5 – £15) and even holds free gigs. The atmosphere is friendly and there’s loads of facilities for socialising with mates including a games room and five pool tables! What’s not to love!
Check out their upcoming events here.
Tick Tock Unlock

Located in central Leeds the venue has four game rooms; Alice in Wonderland, The Hatch, Blueprint and Project Pandora. The price starts at £14 per person – a bit on the expensive side – but so worth it!
Great for an outing with your house mates, these games get you working as a team and having a bunch of fun at the same time.
You can book your tickets online on their website.
City Bloc Indoor Climbing Wall
City Bloc is an indoor climbing wall with a range of beginner and difficult climbs for all abilities. It’s inside so it’s best for those rainy days when you want to get yourself out of the house and try new activities. It’s also great way to build strength and stay fit whilst having fun.
They have a student day on Friday’s where you can pay £4.00 for the day so it’s a bargain! Visit the website for more details on entry fees and opening times and have fun climbing!
